HADH Auxillary Blood Drive

Article Date:  October 15, 2012

Goal was 40 units reached 45!

Thanks to everyone who donated blood at The American Red Cross blood drive on October 9, 2012.  The drive was sponsored by Hermann Area District Hospital Auxiliary and held at People's Savings Bank-Rhineland where 45 pints of blood were collected.

Each pint of blood can be divided into three components—red cells, platelets and plasma—giving our blood drive the possibility of impacting 135 lives.  While it is impossible at the time of donation to know how that specific donation will be used, there are more uses for blood than many people realize. Whole blood often is needed for surgery patients and trauma victims. For example, a single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood. The blood used in an emergency is already on the shelves before the event occurs.  Cancer patients may also need significant amounts of blood. More than one million people are diagnosed with cancer each year. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment.  To learn more about how donating blood can help a patient in need go to redcrossblood.org

Thanks again to those of you who gave a part of yourself to help patients in need. A thank you goes out to the following people, business, and organizations.  St. Ann Sodality Ladies from Church of the Risen Savior in Rhineland for providing homemade cookies.  HADH Auxiliary for serving refreshments and Hermann Subway for providing lunch for the Red Cross staff. Below are the people who came out to donate.
