January, 2004 was the birth of public transportation in the town of Hermann and the Hermann Area Hospital District. Hermann Express!!! Hermann Express is sponsored by Hermann Area District Hospital and the City of Hermann in cooperation with Missouri Department of Transportation. In 2004 when Hermann Express started Hermann Area District Hospital carried out the task of dispatching. Then around October of 2007 the City of Hermann took the task of dispatching and continues today. The hospital and city share in the financial responsibilities and the management. OATS is contracted by the hospital and city to run the bus and provide the drivers. The great thing about this partnership is that they enable services for all residents of the Hermann Hospital District, regardless of age or income. “The partnership between the City of Hermann and hospital to provide this service is a great benefit for citizen of Hermann. It is an honor for the city to be a supporter of Hermann Express.” says Larry Miskel, Mayor of Hermann.
Through the development of Hermann Express a template was created and enabled the hospital to developed Owensville Transit. It is support by Hermann Area District Hospital, and has been running since 2006, it covers the southern part of Gasconade county.
