The Board reviewed statistical and financial information.  Revenue and patient activity continues to show good growth.  Utilization by our community members of the hospital and clinic services have greatly increased with year-to-date gross revenue through August being over twenty-three million dollars which is over 35% higher than a year ago.  Hospital employees continue to work with less staff which has resulted in salary and benefits for this year being over $750,000 less than in 2018.

The City of Hermann submitted to FEMA a buy-out request and they are awaiting the response from FEMA.  When approved, the City would own the clinic property on Sixth Street and they would be responsible for its demolition.   The hospital staff continues to work on recruiting a dynamic doctor to join the Hermann practices.

The Board reviewed results of the ongoing operational review.  There are 20 fewer employees as compared to a year ago which had driven down expenses.  The Board is working on a communications and marketing plan so board members, medical providers, and hospital employees can share the hospital successes and failures with our community.

Dale Ridder, Board President and Matt Siebert, Assistant Administrator were recently guests of the Missouri Hospital Association in Washington, D.C. to discuss with our elected officials the concerns with reimbursement for rural healthcare.  It has long been Medicare’s stance to pay less for rural healthcare than urban rendered services.  On Wednesday, October 2nd several hospital employees will be participating in the Gasconade R-1 career days. Dr Donald Swayze and several employees plan to attend the event to share with students the variety of careers that are available in healthcare locally after graduation. On September 11th the hospital held recognition for the employees that attained milestone anniversaries during 2019.  One employee celebrated her 35th anniversary.  Two employees celebrated their 30th anniversary while two additional employees celebrated their 25th anniversary of employment.  While three employees celebrated their 20th anniversary, four fellow employees celebrated their 15th, six others celebrated their 10th, and nine more hit their 5th year of employment.  A good time was had by all.

The Butch Wax concert that the Auxiliary held on September 14th was a success.  Attendance was over 350 and net proceeds should be almost $6,000.  The Auxiliary greatly appreciated all that contributed towards the event.  The Auxiliary started a Patient Greeter Program to enhance the services of the hospital.  Many patients and visitors are appreciative of their assistance.

The Board discussed how much ridership has declined in the Hermann Express since the program was started in 2004 as a partnership between the City of Hermann and the hospital with additional state funding by the Missouri Department of Transportation.  Rides are down to around 100 per month as compared to almost 500 rides per month when the program was going strong.  The Board approved three agreements at the meeting.  Kindred Hospice was approved for a short-term acute and respite agreement for their patients that need these services.  The Small Hospital Improvement Program is an annual federal grant for around $8,300 to improve patient quality.  This year the grant is administered by the Missouri Hospital Association and the Board also approved this agreement.  A scholarship/loan was extended to a current LPN, Tina Feth to go to school to be a RN and return to work here to pay off the agreement.
