Remembering Betty Bruns, Board Member & Advocate of Hermann Hospital
April 11, 2018
Hermann Area District Hospital would like to recognize Betty Bruns who passed away on Friday, March 30th. Betty was a big part of Hermann Hospital for many years and a huge advocate of both the hospital and of the Hermann community as a whole.
Betty served on the Hospital Board from May of 1998 to December of 2014. She held the officer position of Treasurer during many of those years. Betty was a truly active Board member. She always had her thinking cap on, trying to find new ways to benefit the hospital. She was very effective in raising funds for the hospital during her years with the Board. When the Rehabilitation Department could not afford a part of the major renovations in 2008-2009, Betty was the catalyst that helped raise the funds to make the renovations happen. She did an excellent job in pulling the community together in gathering donations to see the visions of the Rehabilitation Department come to life, which included the Rehabilitation Department on the lower level along with the Home Health offices across the hall. Betty also attended many fundraising events throughout the years, helping to support the causes of the hospital and auxiliary.
Betty found it very important also that Hermann Hospital be directly involved in the community, seeing that the hospital participate in the annual Maifest parade, among other community events.
Betty’s personality was always positive and upbeat. Her stance and purpose on the board was to be a strong advocate for the people. Community members would go to her with their thoughts regarding the hospital, and she would share them with the Board to see that the hospital grow and improve even further. She wanted Hermann Hospital to be of service to the people, benefiting our small community and the health of everyone here in Hermann and the surrounding areas. She represented the population and kept that purpose close to her heart during the 16 years she served as a Board member.
Betty also remained up-to-date on the ins and outs of healthcare by attending various educational seminars put together by the Missouri Hospital Association. She even made trips to Washington D.C. to represent Hermann Hospital among elected officials.
Hermann Area District Hospital is thankful to have had such a wonderful person on our team. She was of great service to our hospital and to our community.
