Acute Care

Patients who stay at Hermann Area District Hospital for their care are typically categorized as either an Acute Care patient or a Skilled Care patient.  Acute Care is provided to patients who have been deemed as needing medical care within a hospital setting and who are suffering from a:

  • serious illness
  • disease
  • injury
  • medical condition
  • or who may be recovering from a major surgery.

Acute Care is set up as a short-term stay at the hospital to treat the immediate medical needs of the patient, with the intention for the patient to grow strong and healthy enough to to return home, or if needed, to discharge to a lower level of care such as Skilled Care.

Hermann Hospital has 24 beds in our renovated state-of-the-art facility.  We have a full range of staff to care for our patients, including our Hospitalists who oversee the care of our patients.  For those who are not familiar with the term Hospitalist, Hospitalists are medical doctors who work specifically in a hospital setting, caring for those hospital patients directly (versus in a health clinic/medical office setting).  We have a wonderful team of Hospitalists on staff at Hermann Hospital who work to make sure our patients receive the care that they need.

Hermann Hospital has been providing Acute Care to our patients for over 50 years, and we strive to provide the best medical care possible to our patients, while also providing care and compassion along the way.  Being a smaller hospital, our patients are not a number to our staff, but a person.
